Who is Matthew Collins?<\/strong><\/h2>\nCollins was initially the south London organiser for the National Front and a volunteer at the\u00a0British National Party\u2019s head office. His commitment to the cause was unwavering. But that all changed following an incident at Welling Library in south east London in 1989.<\/p>\n
Around 40 men, one of whom was Collins, descended on a group of mostly elderly women who were taking part in an anti-fascist meeting, with a number of the victims requiring hospital treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a f**king coward to have done such a thing,\u201d he later wrote in his book Hate: My Life in the British Far Right<\/a> (via The New Yorker<\/a>, 2019). \u201cI began to realise that this was what race wars were about, the innocent attacked and their dignity destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\nA short time later, he contacted Searchlight<\/a>, an anti-fascist magazine, and supplied the publication with insider information about the circles he was running in.
