ITV’s unlikely crime-solving duo will return sooner than expected. <\/p>

Robson Green and Tom Brittney are returning to Grantchester sooner than expected, with a premiere date sometime this autumn.<\/p>\n

ITV recently named Grantchester alongside a number of returning dramas (including Endeavour<\/a> and Vera<\/a>) that would be broadcast later this year.<\/p>\n

And following a key announcement across the pond, we could expect Grantchester season six to air as early as September 2021\u2026<\/p>\n

The crime drama\u2019s US broadcaster PBS recently\u00a0revealed that the sixth series would air from 3rd October \u2014\u00a0and\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/a> understands the US broadcast of Grantchester will follow the UK\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In July 2021, we got the news we were hoping for from ITV, who revealed the new series in their autumn preview, meaning we will get new episodes before the year is out.<\/p>\n

Brittney and Green will be reprising their respective roles as ITV\u2019s unlikely crime-solving duo:\u00a0motorcycle-riding Reverend Will Davenport<\/a>\u00a0and local detective DI Geordie Keating.<\/p>\n

Season six now marks Brittney\u2019s second full run at Grantchester\u2019s resident parish vicar, after replacing James Norton\u2019s Sidney Chambers.<\/p>\n

Adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels<\/a> by James Runcie, the show has regularly attracted over five million viewers during its past five seasons.<\/p>\n

Grantchester season 6 release date<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s not yet been announced exactly when UK viewers will be able to watch the series on ITV, but we know it will be arriving in autumn 2021<\/strong>, as per ITV\u2019s slate for the coming months.<\/p>\n

US viewers can watch Grantchester season six on\u00a0PBS Masterpiece from\u00a03rd October 2021 at 9pm (EST)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Grantchester resumed production back in October 2020, and PBS (the home for Grantchester across the pond) celebrated the news with a compilation video of cast members\u2019 experiences of adapting to their COVID-safe working environment; including masks in-between takes, and (much needed) post-lockdown haircuts\u2026<\/p>\n

In a statement, Kudos Executive Producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd said: \u201cIn these difficult times we are delighted to be able to film another series of our beloved Grantchester.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring the series to the screen and we know the audience are very excited to see what Will, Geordie and the Grantchester family have in store for them.\u201d<\/p>

Grantchester season 6 cast<\/h2>\n

The central pair of Robson\u00a0Green and Tom Brittney will be returning, both reprising their roles as\u00a0DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Will Davenport respectively.<\/p>\n

Dominic Mafham will also reprise his role as St John Gurney-Clifford.<\/p>\n

Season six guest stars will include Jemma Redgrave, Gary Beadle (who plays the Archdeacon), Rachael Stirling, Miles Jupp and Rebecca Front.<\/p>\n

Set in 1958, the first episode of season six will see the pair attempting to unwind at a holiday camp \u2013 only to wind up investigating a murder at the resort.<\/p>\n

ITV has teased: \u201cAs events unfold on the trip, there will be serious repercussions for the rest of the series.\u201d<\/p>\n

The season five finale also saw a shock twist, when Tom Brittney\u2019s Reverend Will Davenport broke his vow of celibacy \u2013 by sleeping with a nun, the older and unconventional Sister Grace (Tracy-Ann Oberman).<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve had sex! You sly old dog\u2026 You\u2019ve slept with your boss\u2019s missus!\u201d Detective Geordie Keating responded with glee after guessing Will\u2019s secret.<\/p>\n

Could season five\u2019s twist mean that the Cambridgeshire vicar will now be more open to romance in the upcoming season?<\/p>\n
