Comedy-horror series Wreck<\/a> opened with a shock on BBC Three tonight, as one of the most recognisable faces in the cast was slashed by the show\u2019s masked killer.<\/p>\n

The new series follows Jamie Walsh (Ladhood<\/a>\u2018s Oscar Kennedy) as he infiltrates a luxury cruise liner on a mission to uncover what happened to his missing sister, who disappeared while working on the ship as an entertainer.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t anticipate that the vessel contains a serial killer, who disguises themselves in the attire of the holiday company\u2019s signature mascot: a creepy duck in a bright yellow trench coat.<\/p>\n

Following in the tradition of the slasher genre\u2019s most iconic entries, Wreck\u2019s first episode ends with a dark \u2018sting\u2019 in which a character \u2013 who seemed set for major role \u2013 meets a grisly end.<\/p>\n

Peaky Blinders<\/a> and Noughts + Crosses<\/a> star Jack Rowan, who plays the cruise ship\u2019s resident drug dealer Danny Jones, is the first person to be picked off by slasher villain Quacky in Wreck episode 1.<\/p>\n

Head writer Brown explained kicking things off with a major death was always part of the plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was like day one,\u201d he said. \u201cI always wanted somebody with some profile and somebody very recognisable to slaughter at the end of the episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody that you thought, \u2018Okay, this could be someone we\u2019re setting up as the primary antagonist for the series,\u2019 and I just love the surprise. It was totally also a reference and a nod to Scream and to Psycho as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
