In a recent interview with BBC News<\/a>, the Tenth Doctor actor explained that \u201cthis all started\u201d when he and various other stars from the show\u2019s past took part in a series of watch-alongs at the height of lockdown.<\/p> \u201cAt a certain time and day everyone would press play on a certain episode and some of the people who had been involved in those episodes were Tweeting along,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cI don\u2019t Tweet but my wife helped me!\u201d<\/p>\n It was during these events that he first spoke about the possibility of a return with showrunner Russell T Davies and former co-star Catherine Tate.<\/p>\n \u201c[We] were just having a text exchange and Catherine said, \u2018Wouldn\u2019t it be fun to do it again?’\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n \u201cRussell said, \u2018We could do a one off, maybe they\u2019d let us.\u2019 We said, \u2018Yeah that would be a laugh,\u2019 and then it all went quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n It was some time later when Davies got in touch again with the news that he was set to return as showrunner.<\/p>\n \u201cSuddenly Russell let us know that he was taking over the show again and he would be back fully in charge and would we come and play a little bit for him?\u201d Tennant said.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I don\u2019t know if we gave him the idea to take Doctor Who back but certainly we thought if he\u2019s doing it, we can\u2019t let these young people have all the fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on\u00a0BBC iPlayer<\/a>\u00a0with episodes of the classic series also available on BritBox \u2013 you can sign up for a\u00a07-day free trial here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Check out more of our\u00a0Sci-Fi<\/a>\u00a0coverage or visit our\u00a0TV Guide<\/a>\u00a0to see what\u2019s on tonight.<\/strong><\/p>\n The latest issue of Radio Times magazine is on sale now \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>subscribe now<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and get the next 12 issues for only \u00a31.
