Harriet Bibby has revealed that there are conflicting emotions for her Coronation Street<\/a> character Summer Spellman over her shock pregnancy.<\/p>\n

The teen\u2019s news is revealed on-screen next week, and it comes amid a difficult time for Summer\u2019s on\/off relationship with boyfriend Aaron Sandford (James Craven). Now, speaking for the first time about her alter ego\u2019s storyline, Bibby has said that Summer\u2019s initial reaction is not a happy one.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think she\u2019s had time to process it,\u201d the actress explained. \u201cI think her first reaction is not a great one. It\u2019s not happy. It\u2019s not what you\u2019d want to feel when you first find out that you\u2019re pregnant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she suddenly goes into panic mode. Summer is the type of person who risk assesses everything and thinks of the worst case scenario. And I think that is what she\u2019s done when she\u2019s found out she\u2019s pregnant. They\u2019re not ready as a couple, and she\u2019s not ready. She\u2019s got her own issues to deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Summer is only just getting her health back on track, after several months of neglecting her diabetes, as well as struggling with an eating disorder<\/a>. Aaron has been a tower of strength for Summer during her troubles; but he has his own worries over living with his violent father<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) who becomes Summer\u2019s confidant, allowing her to come to terms with her pregnancy. Although Aaron is supportive when he eventually finds out about Summer\u2019s secret, the other men in her life create extra chaos.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Paul] reacts quite calmly and just takes it a step at a time and thinks, \u2018Right, well, what\u2019s the next thing we\u2019re going to do?\u2019 After talking to him, she does go and tell Aaron, and he\u2019s very understanding.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey get back together in that moment and he says, \u2018Let\u2019s not make a decision now, we need to just come to terms with it\u2019,\u201d Bibby told us.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then Todd and Billy find out and it\u2019s just like panic stations, it\u2019s kind of the opposite reaction, it\u2019s all \u2018we need to make a decision\u2019. They want to figure it all out now rather than come to terms with it and let her make a decision in her own time.\u201d<\/p>

When a couple that Summer met recently, Mike and Esther, show an interest in adopting Summer\u2019s baby, she is thrown into more turmoil. \u201cShe\u2019s completely shocked, she doesn\u2019t really know Mike and Esther \u2013 she literally met them a week before this happens.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she knows that they are good people and she trusts that her judgement of them is a good one, but Summer has a strong moral compass and as soon as they suggest it she\u2019s debating in her head, \u2018Is this even right? Is this illegal?\u2019 It sounds crazy to her but then when she speaks to Esther, she connects to her as a woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she understands and really sympathises with her position that she just wants to be a mother. I think when Summer starts to understand that she softens and actually considers the proposal. It\u2019s a big consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Viewers will have to wait and see what Summer decides, but Coronation Street will air these scenes from next week.<\/p>\n
