Jodie Whittaker has officially signed off from Doctor Who<\/a> \u2013 but her final moments as the Thirteenth Doctor might have been different.<\/p>\n

After being subjected to a fatal blast from a sentient ball of energy, the Doctor began to regenerate \u2013 having parted ways with Yaz (Mandip Gill), she decided to depart the TARDIS and \u201ctake in one last sunrise\u201d, materialising on a clifftop.<\/p>\n

With a smile on her face, Thirteen delivered her sign-off: \u201cThat\u2019s the only sad thing\u2026 I wanna know what happens next. Right then, Doctor whoever I\u2019m about to be \u2013 tag, you\u2019re it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press at a screening of Whittaker\u2019s final episode, Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall revealed that this sequence was different in the script.<\/p>

\u201cI had written that scene before I wrote anything else,\u201d Chibnall said. \u201cI knew what that final scene was.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, he added: \u201cWe changed [her final words] round in the edit, because seeing the performance and what Jodie had done\u2026 actually, I have to give credit to Becky Trotman, who\u2019s one of the two editors on this episode [\u2026] Becky said, \u2018I just want to play you this scene with the two last lines flipped.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it was originally, \u2018I want to know what happens next, I bet it\u2019s going to be brilliant.\u2019 \u2013 those were going to be the final words, and then Becky played me the version where she flipped the lines and I was like, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s loads better!’\u201d<\/p>\n

Chibnall disclosed that Whittaker\u2019s final scene was filmed on \u201cthe opposite of a closed set\u201d, with the star performing \u201cin front of about 200 people in the studio\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody came down to worship!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chibnall joins Whittaker in departing Doctor Who, with the series entering a new era for its 60th anniversary and beyond under returning showrunner Russell T Davies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both Whittaker and Mandip Gill have however insisted they\u2019d be happy to return to the show for a guest appearance<\/a> in future \u2013 70th anniversary in 2033, anyone?<\/p>\n
