Season 4 has been voted the best run of the Doctor Who<\/a> revival era in an exclusive RadioTimes.com<\/a> poll.<\/p>\n

The season \u2013 which was David Tennant\u2019s last as the Doctor \u2013 was the comfortable winner, earning 24 per cent of the vote after almost 9,000 Whovians participated in the poll.<\/p>\n

Each participant was allowed to vote for three different seasons, and more than half of them opted for season 4 as one of their choices \u2013 with the winner attracting 5,042 votes in total.<\/p>

Season 5, which saw Matt Smith take over from David Tennant in the TARDIS, came in second place with 12 per cent, while the very first season of the revival era \u2013 with Christopher Eccleston as the Time Lord \u2013 rounded out the top 3 with 11 per cent.<\/p>\n

The only other season to score double figures was season 2 \u2013 Tennant\u2019s first \u2013 which managed 10 per cent of the vote, while the fifth spot was taken by Peter Capaldi\u2019s final run, season 10.<\/p>\n

More recent seasons did not fare so well with voters \u2013 with Jodie Whittaker\u2019s three runs as the Doctor scoring just 1 per cent, 2 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n

Season 4 has long been considered something of the Gold standard of the modern era of Who, with the final doubleheader \u2013 The Stolen Earth and Journey\u2019s End \u2013 held in especially high regard by fans.<\/p>\n

Those episodes saw various characters from Russell T Davies\u2019 first stint as showrunner \u2013 including Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Captain Jack Harkness, Sarah Jane Smith, and Donna Noble \u2013 all unite for an epic crossover as they battled against the Daleks.<\/p>\n
