We might have just seen one former Doctor Who<\/a> star return to the series in dramatic fashion, but Peter Capaldi has insisted he has no plans to follow in David Tennant\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n

The BBC sci-fi\u2019s latest episode, The Power of the Doctor<\/a>, ended with Jodie Whittaker\u2019s Thirteenth Doctor regenerating into a new form, played by Tenth Doctor actor Tennant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Returning showrunner Russell T Davies has since stated that Tennant is indeed playing the Fourteenth Doctor<\/a> rather than a revisiting of the Tenth \u2013 same face, different incarnation.<\/p>\n

Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor between 2014 and 2017, had previously ruled out a return to Doctor Who for a guest appearance in a multi-Doctor story<\/a>, saying it\u2019d be \u201cvery hard to imagine how you\u2019d get a decent crack of the whip when there\u2019s 14 of you\u201d.<\/p>\n

But would he be interested in something akin to Tennant\u2019s comeback, where he was once again the one and only Doctor?<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think so, no,\u201d Capaldi told RadioTimes.com<\/a> while promoting his new Prime Video<\/a> series The Devil\u2019s Hour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Doctor Who \u2013 I love it in all of its forms. But I\u2019ve sort of done my time on it and I like the idea that you leave that as it is, instead of constantly digging up more of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though he\u2019s not looking to return to the series, Capaldi added: \u201cI think the show\u2019s wonderful and I look forward to seeing what happens next.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following Tennant\u2019s return stint for three specials to mark Doctor Who\u2019s 60th anniversary \u2013 which will also mark the return of Catherine Tate as companion Donna Noble \u2013 Sex Education<\/a> star Ncuti Gatwa will then take up the lead as the Fifteenth Doctor for the show\u2019s next full series.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Capaldi plays the enigmatic Gideon in spooky six-part thriller The Devil\u2019s Hour, which sees him reunited with ex-Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat who serves as executive producer on the series.<\/p>

Written and created by Tom Moran, the series also stars Jessica Raine, Nikesh Patel (Starstruck<\/a>) and Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso<\/a>) and explores the surprising link between a woman (Raine) suffering from waking nightmares, a detective (Patel) investigating a string of brutal murders and a nomadic criminal (Capaldi) who believes he can predict the future.<\/p>\n

Capaldi previously described the series as \u201cspectacularly dark<\/a>\u201c, adding: \u201cEverything starts with the scripts and Tom\u2019s scripts were wonderful and inventive and such a brilliant idea at the core. Kind of an aspect of it is that you should listen to your nightmares, because they may be communicating with you in some way.\u201d<\/p>\n
