The series has been confirmed for a third run \u2013 here’s everything we know so far. <\/p>

It looks like Snowpiercer won\u2019t be reaching the end of the tracks for quite some time yet \u2013 with the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series having been renewed for a fourth run before the third season has even aired.<\/p>\n

A video from the Vancouver set of the series saw star Daveed Diggs announce the news, while also revealing that the third season has now wrapped production.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s only a few of us left because we are about to wrap production on the epic season three of Snowpiercer, it will be coming soon to TNT we cannot wait for you to see it but wait \u2013 there\u2019s more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have news. We\u2019re announcing to you right now today that we have been greenlit for season four. And this is just a note to say thank you to you our loyal fans, obviously this wouldn\u2019t have happened without you. And if you like seasons one and two I have no reason to assume you won\u2019t love seasons three and four, it only gets bigger and more Snowpiercer-ier.\u201d<\/div>\n

So what \u201cmore Snowpiercier-ier\u201d surprises lay in store for fans in season three? After the addition of Sean Bean as a scenery-chewing villain<\/a> in season two, the series has been on an upwards trajectory, and fans were left with quite the cliffhanger at the end of the last run.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s everything we know so far.<\/p>\n

Snowpiercer season 3 release date<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Shortly before season two got underway, it was announced that the show had already been renewed for a third run. So fans needn\u2019t worry about the series reaching the end of the tracks just yet.<\/p>\n

As for when the next run will debut, there\u2019s not much in the way of information at this stage. Nor is it easy to guess an air date based on the previous series, given the first run arrived in May 2020 and the second in January 2021.<\/p>\n

However we do know that production in Vancouver is now wrapped, so hopefully, there won\u2019t be too<\/em> long a wait \u2013 we\u2019ll let you know as soon as we hear specific details.<\/p>\n

Snowpiercer season 3 cast<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Season three should see several returning faces. One star who will be back is Jennifer Connolly, despite her character Melanie appearing to be killed off at the end of the second run.<\/p>\n

Executive producer Becky Clements gave somewhat mixed signals when asked about Melanie\u2019s fate in a recent interview with TVLine<\/a>, saying, \u201cI don\u2019t know that she is alive\u201d but also revealing that \u201cwe are pleased that Jennifer will join us for season three.\u201d So perhaps her role in the next run will be limited to flashbacks?<\/p>\n

Fans can also expect to see more of Daveed Diggs as Layton and Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford, and series regulars Alison Wright, Rowan Blanchard, Lena Hall, Mickey Sumner, Sam Otto, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg are also lined up to return.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also meet a major new character, with The Fall and The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi joining the cast in an as-yet-unspecified role, while Clements has also revealed that \u201ca couple of smaller characters\u201d will join the show too. We\u2019ll let you know when we get more information on that front.<\/p>\n

Snowpiercer season 3 trailer<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There\u2019s no trailer for the third season just yet. Production is still in its early stages, so we could still be waiting a while yet. As soon as one is available, we\u2019ll add it to this page.<\/p>\n

Snowpiercer season 3 plot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

No official plot information for the third series has been released thus far \u2013 but executive producer Becky Clements has provided a few details about what we can expect in the next series now that the two trains are apart.<\/p>\n

Asked if the series will resemble a chase between the two trains, Clements answered, \u201cThere will be some chasing, but it will not be the full season. We definitely have lots of narratives happening. There\u2019s survival, there\u2019s [what happened to] Melanie, there\u2019s research on the train, and there\u2019s the ultimate goal\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with Deadline<\/a>, Clements said the next series will find all the characters \u201ctrying to find their place in their new world\u201d while she also confirmed there would be a time jump to show \u201cwhat the new world order looks like\u201d.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun in season three, how we have new alliances and new foes. It\u2019s been fun to watch the scene work, putting new people together.\u201d<\/p>\n

And she confirmed that we will also learn more about Josie (Katie McGuinness) and her powers, something that was touched upon in season two.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s kind of our fun, interesting, sci-fi genre bit of human augmentation,\u201d she said. \u201cHow far can we and should we go in the world of CRISPR. You know, when we start messing with the maker, what happens? So, yes. There\u2019s some interesting stuff coming there, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sean Bean also discussed the new alliances with the NY Times<\/a>, and how having to work together with Layton when the trains are reconnected will affect Wilford\u2019s reign.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe we\u2019ll get to see him in a more reasonable light. There are moments where he has to bargain with people, comply with some of their demands and try to be diplomatic,\u201d Bean said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis might give the audience the impression that Wilford\u2019s folding, but there\u2019s always an ulterior motive \u2014 it\u2019s never simple. That\u2019s how cunning he is, how good he is at scheming.\u201d<\/p>\n

After it was revealed that the world was getting warmer in season two, we fully expect the very timely climate change message to be expanded upon in season three \u2013 especially as Melanie seemingly died attempting to collect data on the changing temperatures. With a time jump confirmed, could it soon be warm enough for humanity to escape Wilford?<\/p>\n

As soon as more plot details emerge we\u2019ll post them here, so keep checking back for all the latest info. Don\u2019t look at Bong Joon Ho\u2019s cult 2013 film for clues, however \u2013 the show has already deviated wildly from the movie<\/a> that inspired it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
