As in previous seasons the Netflix<\/a> series remains very much an ensemble, with the drama split between The Queen, Dominic West\u2019s Charles, Jonathan Pryce\u2019s Prince Philip, as well as other members of the Royal household and those surrounding them.<\/p>\n Now, in her first season in the role, Manville has explained why this makes shooting the series a particularly \u201cweird\u201d experience for herself and the rest of the cast<\/a>.<\/p>\n Manville said: \u201cOf course, the strange thing about the job \u2013 and it\u2019s not a negative, but it is a strange thing \u2013 is that you have big bursts of working a lot, you really get into it, you\u2019re doing your big episode, and it\u2019s great, and then you might have three weeks off then come back in and be in a scene where there are quite a lot of you and you\u2019re just saying, \u2018Cheers!\u2019 or something.\u201d<\/p>\n Manville continued: \u201cThat\u2019s weird. You have to get your head around that, which was strange for a lot of us because we\u2019re leading actors, and we\u2019re used to doing projects where we go in occasionally like that. But this is such a glorious ensemble piece, and also you\u2019re shooting ten episodes so if you were on all the time, you\u2019d be dead. So, thank God you\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n Manville also went on to praise the crew on the show, noting that they are all \u201cat the top of their game\u201d.<\/p>\n She said: \u201cI like engaging with the people on the floor, and they\u2019re all so brilliant. That\u2019s the other thing about this job: you\u2019re working with everybody at the top of their game. The props department never missed a trick, and I\u2019m smoking at times. I never had to say, \u2018Could I have a cigarette?\u2019 Every time we\u2019d reset and it would be done, boom, in there, without any time being lost.<\/p>\n \u201cThe camera crew have been fantastic too. It\u2019s an inevitable relationship, you and the camera, and it\u2019s just been wonderful. Also there are different directors. There might be an episode with a director where I\u2019m only in one scene and the director is fantastic and you think, \u2018Oh, I\u2019d really love to do a bit more with you\u2019.\u201d<\/p> Manville has previously spoken about working with Timothy Dalton on the series, whose character Peter Townsend returns after previously having been played by Ben Miles in seasons 1 and 2.<\/p>\n She noted that Dalton was \u201cspot-on as Peter Townsend\u201d<\/a>, while also praising the actor as \u201clovely\u201d.<\/p>\n The Crown season 5 will be released on\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday 9th November 2022, while seasons 1-4 are available now.\u00a0Sign up for Netflix from \u00a36.99 a month<\/a>.
