Carry On actor Leslie Phillips has died at the age of 98.<\/span><\/p>\n The star, who is also known for voicing the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter movies, passed away on Monday (7th November), according to The Sun<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n Phillips had been battling illness and previously suffered two strokes.<\/p>\n His wife Zara Carr led tributes to the actor and said: \u201cI\u2019ve lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHe was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She continued: \u201cWhen we married he cheekily introduced me to the press as royalty, insisting I was the new Zara Phillips and that I was related to the Queen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The actor was best known for his \u201cWell hello\u201d, \u201cI say\u201d and \u201cDing dong\u201d catchphrases in the Carry On film franchise,\u00a0which were released between 1958 and 1978.<\/span><\/p>\n He also starred in a number of films, including Harry Potter, and\u00a0<\/span>appeared opposite Angelia Jolie in 2001\u2019s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.<\/span><\/p>\n Phillips also served in World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery.<\/span><\/p>\n The wonderful Leslie Phillips CBE has left us.
