One of the directors behind Sex Education<\/a> season 3, Runyararo Mapfumo, has added her voice to the chorus of those praising Ncuti Gatwa\u2019s casting as the Fifteenth Doctor<\/a>, calling it \u201cgenius\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mapfumo, who worked with Gatwa in his role as Eric on the Netflix<\/a> series, was speaking exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> after being chosen for this year\u2019s BAFTA Breakthrough scheme, which provides a springboard to creatives in film, games and TV.<\/p>\n

When asked about Gatwa\u2019s Doctor Who<\/a> casting, Mapfumo said: \u201cIt\u2019s just genius casting, isn\u2019t it? It\u2019s just so good, and he\u2019s going to absolutely smash it. I\u2019ve seen a few episodes of Doctor Who, I\u2019ve got friends who are huge, huge fans of it and who are super excited \u2013 I will become a watcher of that show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s just got a charisma and a flair and a style that can only be done by him and is going to be perfect for that role. So I\u2019m really excited to see what he does with that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Gatwa is set to appear as the Doctor for the first time <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-specials-new-series-2023-newsupdate\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">next year<\/a>, but at the end of <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/jodie-whittaker-doctor-who-final-speech-newsupdate\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">Jodie Whittaker\u2019s swansong<\/a> fans were given a brief glimpse of what the star will bring to the role in a <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-ncuti-gatwa-first-appearance-newsupdate\/"\" target=\""_blank"\" rel=\""noopener" noopener noreferrer\">short teaser<\/a> for things to come.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how it feels to have been chosen for BAFTA Breakthrough, Mapfumo said: \u201cIt\u2019s been really exciting. It\u2019s been a great experience so far.
