It may have been five years since the last episode of Sherlock aired on the BBC, but die-hard fans\u2019 appetite for more has, if anything, only grown.<\/p>\n

And for those desperate to see Benedict Cumberbatch\u2019s sharp-witted detective reunited with his faithful (and, let\u2019s be honest, long-suffering) friend John Watson, actor Martin Freeman has some relatively promising news.<\/p>\n

Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show this weekend, he admits he doesn\u2019t know whether Sherlock will ever return to screens, but says \u201cit\u2019s never a completely shut door.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d he emphasises. \u201cPersonally, I\u2019m a fan of things being finite. I like things ending. I think it\u2019s natural for things to end.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Freeman is also intrigued as to what the future could hold for Steven Moffat\u2019s much-loved drama series were it ever to be revived.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m also a sucker for a good idea and a good script,\u201d he adds. \u201cIf something comes up that persuades us all \u2013 it would have to be us all \u2013 then my door would always be open.\u201d<\/p>

Earlier this year, Sherlock co-creator Moffat told RadioTimes.com<\/a> it might be \u201ctoo sad\u201d to bring the show back without the legendary actress Una Stubbs<\/a>, who died last year at the age of 84.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Radio Times Covers Party, Moffat said he\u2019d \u201cdo Sherlock again tomorrow\u201d, adding: \u201cWhy ask me?<\/p>\n

\u201cMark [Gatiss, co-creator] would do it tomorrow and Sue [Vertue] would do it tomorrow \u2013 we\u2019d all just do it again!<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s down to Benedict and Martin,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey were very loyal to that show over a very long life when it definitely became their lowest paying job. And I don\u2019t think that\u2019s necessarily what they want to do now.\u201d<\/p>\n
