Florence Pugh has teased her role in new period drama The Wonder<\/a>, a Netflix adaptation of Emma Donoghue\u2019s novel of the same name<\/a>, revealing that she found it \u201cinfuriating\u201d to play.<\/p>\n

The series stars Pugh<\/a> as English nurse Lib Wright, who\u2019s called out to the Irish Midlands in 1862 to observe a \u201cfasting girl\u201d: 11-year-old Anna, who claims not to have eaten for four months.<\/p>\n

While Anna\u2019s parents and many of the village\u2019s all-male committee believe it\u2019s a religious miracle, Lib is certain of fraud and sets out to convince Anna to eat.<\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\""font-weight:\">And it was this push back against the delusion around her, which had to be discreet, that Pugh found both \u201cexciting\u201d and \u201cinfuriating\u201d to embody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Opening up about the challenges of playing Lib, Pugh explained in an exclusive interview with <a href=\""https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com"\">RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201c<span style=\""font-weight:\">I choose roles where there\u2019s always something that that woman is pushing back on and loudly pushing back on, and it\u2019s something that I love playing, whether it\u2019s in a different era.\u201d<\/span><\/p> <p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\""font-weight:\">She continued: \u201cAnd for this I read the script and I was like, \u2018Yes, pushing back!\u2019 And then actually I came to play to it and I was like, \u2018No, she can\u2019t push back because we\u2019re dealing with a completely different time, with a religion that was so impressive and powerful that no matter how much she knew and how much she was aware of what was going on \u2013 she believed in science over religion \u2013 she can\u2019t say that.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\""font-weight:\">\u201cAnd so for the first time ever in any role that I\u2019ve done, I actually couldn\u2019t be loud about it. I had to be quiet about it, and that was what made it really, really exciting and fascinating to do.
