Hyde Pierce played Niles, the brother of Grammer\u2019s titular psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane, in the hit comedy which ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n A spin-off from the comedy Cheers, the show was set in Seattle, and followed Crane as he returned to his hometown, reconnecting with his family and taking on a new job as a radio show host.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A revival of the show was confirmed in 2021, and will eventually air on Paramount Plus<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking to People<\/a> magazine, Grammer revealed that \u201cDavid basically decided he wasn\u2019t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the star, Hyde Pierce\u2019s decision not to take part worked out well, as it allowed the show\u2019s creators to take the story in a new direction.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do, anyway, which was a Frasier third act,\u201d Grammer explained. \u201cIt\u2019s an entirely new life for him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Few details about the reboot, which will follow the lead character in a different US city, have been confirmed so far, though Grammer has hinted that the script gets emotional<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I\u2019m happy,\u201d he told The Talk in July.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hyde Pierce, who has since gone on to appear in shows like Julia<\/a> and The Good Wife, previously suggested that he was uncertain whether he would return to the show.<\/span><\/p> \u201cThat whole time of my life, the writing on those shows, the actors I got to work with \u2014 all of that is deeply important to me,\u201d he told Vulture<\/a> earlier this year. \u201cAnd I would never disrespect that in such a way as to say just offhandedly, \u2018Oh, no, thanks. I\u2019m not going to do that again.\u2019 It\u2019s too valuable to me.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBut by the same token, because it\u2019s so valuable to me, I also wouldn\u2019t do it just [to] do it. And I believe it can be done without me, too \u2014 finding new stories to tell, in the same way that Frasier did after Cheers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n A release date for the show is yet to be confirmed, though Grammer revealed earlier this month that rehearsals will begin in February 2023. <\/span><\/p>\n The Frasier reboot will be coming to Paramount Plus UK \u2013 you can sign up to Paramount Plus now<\/a>.
