Grant plays a newly elected Prime Minister in Richard Curtis\u2019 2003 ensemble rom-com, which follows a sprawling cast<\/a> of characters as they fall in and out of love in the run-up to Christmas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n His character, David, eventually ends up falling for Downing Street tea lady Natalie (played by Martine McCutcheon) over the course of the movie, and their relationship is accidentally revealed when he attends his niece and nephew\u2019s Christmas play.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In one unforgettable scene, Grant dances through Downing Street to Jump (For My Love) by the Pointer Sisters, getting into the groove until his secretary, played by Meg Wynn Owen, walks in on him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI will give myself the credit of having the secretary catch me\u2026 genius,\u201d he admitted during an anniversary TV special<\/a>, presented by ABC news host Diane Sawyer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The actor went on to reveal that he considered the scene to be \u201cexcruciating\u201d and immediately knew he wouldn\u2019t enjoy filming it when he read the script.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI think I saw it in the script and thought \u2018I\u2019ll hate doing that\u2019,\u201d he recalled. \u201cNo Englishman can dance when they\u2019re sober at 8am in the morning.<\/span><\/p> \u201cAnd to this day, you know, there\u2019s many people, and I agree with them, and we think it\u2019s the most excruciating scene ever committed to celluloid. <\/span>But then some people like it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Writer and director Curtis, who also appeared in the reunion special, said that Grant was \u201cgrumpy\u201d about having to dance on screen, but ultimately agreed due to \u201ccontractual obligation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI think he was hoping I [would] get ill or something and they\u2019d say, \u2018Oh, what a shame to lose that dancing sequence,\u2019\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Cast members Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Laura Linney also appeared in the TV special to look back on their memories of filming Love Actually.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Grant went on to reprise his role \u2013 and perform another dance \u2013 as the Prime Minister in a Comic Relief special for Red Nose Day, which aired in 2017. <\/span><\/p>\n Check out our TV Guide<\/a> or Streaming Guide<\/a>, or visit our Film<\/a> hub for more news and features.<\/strong><\/p>\n The latest issue of Radio Times is on sale now \u2013 subscribe now<\/a>.
