Better stars I Hate Suzie<\/a>\u2019s Leila Farzad and Broadchurch\u2019s Andrew Buchan as DI Lou Slack and Col McHugh, and \u201cexplores the complex and powerful bonds of loyalty and family\u201d and \u201cthe power of human conscience\u201d, according to the BBC.<\/span><\/p>\n Lou met Col when she was struggling as a young police officer, and he was a newcomer to the Leeds underworld. The deal they struck years ago has shaped their lives ever since, allowing Lou to rise up in her career and Col to become rich and powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n When Lou\u2019s family is \u201cbrought to the brink of a tragedy\u201d, the synopsis explains, she must finally start to right the wrongs she has spent years looking away from, which ultimately includes trying to bring down Col.<\/span><\/p>\n In the above clip from the five-part series\u2019 opening episode, we see the pair attempting to push the limits of their relationship when Lou makes her first move against Col, in a tense meeting at a restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\n Lou explains to her longtime friend that her colleagues received an \u201canonymous tip\u201d about an associate named Noel, which she was unable to \u201ckill\u201d completely.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBest I could do was to get ahead of it and make sure that Noel didn\u2019t get himself shot, then I reminded him that you would be there for him,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n Col appears unimpressed with her explanation, telling her: \u201cYou come to me wanting to take him, and I say no, and then the very same night I find out that you\u2019ve nicked him at a safe house that only you and five other people know about?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, Better was entirely shot in Leeds and was produced by SISTER, the production company behind hits like Chernobyl, This Is Going to Hurt<\/a> and Gangs of London<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Peaky Blinders\u2019 Samuel Edward-Cook, Cold Feet\u2019s Ceallach Spellman, Wolfe\u2019s Zak Ford-Williams and Liar\u2019s Carolin Stoltz are also set to star, joined by Anton Lesser and Olivia Nakintu.<\/span><\/p> \u201cBetter is a brilliant fresh take on the morality tale,\u201d Farzad said when the project was announced earlier this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am excited to have the opportunity to play Lou Slack, the vehicle through which we explore the multivalent layers of good and bad.
