Coronation Street\u00a0star Rob Mallard has weighed in on his character Daniel Osbourne\u2019s reaction to his girlfriend\u2019s health scare.<\/p>\n

In upcoming scenes, Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) tells Daniel she has found a lump in her breast, leaving him spiralling over the possibility of losing her.<\/p>\n

Daniel lost his wife Sinead to cervical cancer in 2019 and is terrified he may go down the same road with his new partner<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s his worst nightmare that it would either happen to him or someone else that he cares about,\u201d Mallard explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen doubly worse, this is someone that Bertie is growing closer to, a second chance of a mother figure for him and yet again this woman he loves might be struck down with cancer. It triggers all of the possible responses you might expect.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite a selfish response \u2013 you think, I\u2019ve been through this once and I can\u2019t do it again because you know what\u2019s going to happen, you know what each of you are going to go through.\u201d<\/p>

Daniel\u2019s fears and the prospect of leaving Bertie without a mother figure<\/a> get the best of him, as he doesn\u2019t show up to Daisy\u2019s GP appointment in order to go to the pub instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe does something that all Barlows seem to do, he gets smashed,\u201d the actor joked. \u201cI believe it\u2019s even a term \u2013 getting Barlowed!<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t mean to, his plan is to meet her at the GP surgery, but he\u2019s so nervous he finds himself in the pub having a whiskey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daisy has to attend her appointment alone, deeply disappointed in Daniel who tries to make up for his behaviour later on.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe understandably tells him to leave, as you would after being embarrassed in such a serious situation,\u201d Mallard said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not what she needs, he\u2019s not stepped up for her. It\u2019s a good indicator of how someone reacts under those kinds of pressures, and what they\u2019ll be like in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will Daniel\u2019s selfish reaction jeopardise his relationship with Daisy?<\/p>\n
