The niece of Lieutenant Colonel Blair \u2018Paddy\u2019 Mayne has criticised the portrayal of her uncle in BBC One\u2019s SAS Rogue Heroes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mayne is played by Jack O\u2019Connell<\/a> in the series, but speaking to The Daily Telegraph<\/a>, Fiona Ferguson said the show had made him out to be a \u201cdrunk Irishman\u201d and an \u201caggressive, inveterate bar brawler\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no denying he did drink, but that wasn\u2019t him,\u201d she said, calling him \u201ca very caring, loving man\u201d and adding that this is not the first time she\u2019s felt his drinking has been exaggerated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had to live with it all my life,\u201d she said. \u201cEver since he died the stories about him were always embellished.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Ben Macintyre\u2019s book of the same name, SAS Rogue Heroes<\/a> was created by Peaky Blinders boss Steven Knight<\/a> and recently ended its first run on BBC One.<\/p>\n

Alongside O\u2019Connell, the first season starred Sex Education\u2019s Connor Swindells and former Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen and dramatised the creation of the SAS<\/a>\u00a0during the Second World War.<\/p>\n

The show<\/a> received mainly positive reviews<\/a> and strong viewing figures, and has already been recommissioned for a second outing, with Knight teasing that the follow-up will \u201ctake the SAS into mainland Europe and will take our heroes to the limits of their endurance\u201d.<\/p>
