It was announced earlier in 2022 that\u00a0Sin\u00e9ad Keenan would be replacing Nicola Walker<\/a> as the new lead for season 5 of Unforgotten<\/a> \u2013 and now fans have been given a first look at her new character DCI Jessica \u2018Jessie\u2019 James.<\/p>\n

The image was first shared by TV Zone<\/a>\u00a0and although it doesn\u2019t give too much away, it shows Jessie \u2013 wearing an all-black outfit \u2013 standing alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar\u2019s popular returning character DI Sunil \u2018Sunny\u2019 Khan as they look moodily into the camera.<\/p>\n

According to ITV, the new season \u2013 for which an air date has not yet been revealed \u2013 will begin just before DCI James starts her new job, offering \u201ca <\/span>devastating introduction to her family life\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series will then see her desperately attempt to make a good impression on her new colleagues as she tries to replace the big shoes left by Cassie Stuart, after the latter\u2019s tragic death in the season 4 finale.<\/p>\n

And of course, there\u2019s the small matter of a major new case to crack \u2013 this time concerning the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith.<\/p>

Back when her casting was announced in March, \u00a0BAFTA-nominated Keenan said: \u201cI\u00a0<\/em>have long been an admirer of Chris Lang\u2019s work so I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Unforgotten team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very much looking forward to working with the extraordinary cast led by the brilliant and incredibly lovely Sanjeev Bhaskar. And I\u2019m hoping that if I play my cards right I might even get to take a peek in Sunny\u2019s backpack!\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019s not the only new face joining the cast for the upcoming season too, with other additions including Rhys Yates (The Outlaws) as Jay, Martina Laird (Summerland, The Bay) as Bele, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Derry Girls) as Tony, and Max Rinehart (Jekyll and Hyde, Miss You Already) as Karol.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, returning cast members include Jordan Long as DS Murray Boulting, Carolina Main as DC Fran Lingley, Georgia Mackenzie as pathologist Dr Leanne Balcombe, Michelle Bonnard as Sunny\u2019s partner Sal, and Pippa Nixon as DC Kaz Willetts.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the show\u2019s creator Chris Lang revealed<\/a> on Twitter: \u201cSo we finally finished production on S5 of <\/span>@Unforgotten <\/span>last week. All that is left to be done now is for it to be wrapped and tied with a bow, and then it\u2019ll be delivered to you in the new year. It\u2019s close team, it\u2019s so close.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unforgotten season 5 will come to ITV1 and ITVX in 2023, and all four previous seasons are currently<\/strong> available to stream on ITVX<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
