He told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that \u201cboth productions were amazing at trying to make it work,\u201d but a solution couldn\u2019t be found \u2013 especially with the added variable of COVID to consider.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been doing [Unforgotten] for about four or five years now, and it\u2019ll be the first one without Nicola [Walker], so it was a tough one to take,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n However, he went on to say that this isn\u2019t necessarily the end of his character\u2019s arc.<\/p> \u201cI spoke to Chris Lang, the writer, and Andy Wilson, the director, and if it goes for season 6, I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll welcome DC Jake Collier back \u2013 [that\u2019s] what I\u2019m hearing, so fingers crossed,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n \u201cBut it\u2019s really nice now because I really love the show and I get to watch it now as a fan when it comes out, but really gutted not to be part of the team.\u201d<\/p>\n In a shocking season 4 twist, Nicola Walker\u2019s lead character DCI Cassie Stuart was killed off<\/a>, leaving partner DI Sunny Khan (played by Sanjeev Bhaskar) devastated.<\/p>\n He\u2019ll be working with a new detective in season 5<\/a> by the name of Jessica James, played by Little Boy Blue\u2019s Sin\u00e9ad Keenan, with Reeves voicing his enthusiasm for the casting.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s a brilliant actress and I was so looking forward to [doing scenes with her],\u201d he continued. \u201cWhat a brilliant person to sort of take the helm of the show, which is why I was so gutted that I wasn\u2019t able to film with them.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to seeing what they\u2019ve cooked up. I think it\u2019s going to be really special. I read the first two episodes \u2013 they sent it when my character was in it \u2013 and then I stopped myself because I think it\u2019s going to be a really good one.\u201d<\/p>\n Reeves added: \u201cFrom speaking to Sanjeev as well, he seems very very chuffed with it. I can\u2019t wait to see what they\u2019ve done, but I\u2019m gutted to miss out.\u201d<\/p>\n In a brief synopsis released at the time of Keenan\u2019s casting, ITV revealed that Unforgotten<\/a>\u2018s next season will unravel the mystery behind human remains discovered in a newly-renovated period property in Hammersmith.<\/p>\n Unforgotten returns to ITV1 in 2023.
