It\u2019s almost time for this year\u2019s series of Strictly Come Dancing<\/a> to begin \u2013 with a whole host of famous faces aiming to follow in the footsteps of last year\u2019s winner Bill Bailey by winning the Glitterball Trophy.<\/p>\n

Several names have already been announced for the new series, and the fourth person to be announced is former Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite.<\/p>\n

Whaite is set to be part of the second-ever same-sex couple<\/a> on the ballroom show \u2013 forming one-half of the first all-male partnership with a yet-to-be-announced Strictly professional.<\/p>\n

John Whaite shot to fame when he won the third series of Great British Bake Off in 2012, aged just 23 \u2013 and he\u2019s been able to carve out a career as a TV personality and baker in the nine years since.<\/p>\n

He has been a regular face on the small screen, with regular cooking slots on Lorraine and more recently Steph\u2019s Packed Lunch, in addition to appearances on This Morning, What\u2019s Cooking?, The Alan Titchmarsh Show and Sunday Brunch.<\/p>\n

In 2016 and 2017 he was one of the presenters of the short-lived ITV daytime cookery competition show Chopping Block alongside\u00a0Rosemary Shrager, while he has released four cookery books<\/div>\n

John\u2019s Strictly journey<\/h2>\n

John said he was \u201cgrateful, excited, and nervous\u201d about joining Strictly after he was confirmed as a contestant by current GBBO host Matt Lucas on the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been wearing sequins and jazzy attire since I was three years old and can\u2019t wait to hurl myself, full throttle, around the most glamorous dance floor on earth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s more exciting for me, is that I\u2019m going to be one half of the first all-male partnership, which is a great step forward in representation and inclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever it is I\u2019m paired with, I hope they are up for a challenge as I want our routines to include lots of spectacular lifts!\u201d<\/p>\n
