The actor and comedian is set to guest-star in the BBC comedy-drama\u2019s Christmas special<\/a> as a medium who gets caught up in the Saint Marie police department\u2019s latest case.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press, Dennis said that he was \u201creally surprised\u201d by the public\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n \u201cAt the moment, I\u2019ve got a full \u2018tache for granddad in Only Fools and Horses [the musical] and whenever I play a different character I will sometimes change the way I look but I suppose it was the black hair of Danny Sheridan, somebody said I looked like a kind of deranged Jack Nicholson.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI was pleased with that because it means I\u2019m inhabiting a role and they\u2019re interested to see who that character is.\u201d<\/p>\n The former Family Fortunes host said that he would need to apply his character\u2019s black hair dye every morning, spending an hour and a half in makeup before filming.<\/p> \u201cAnd literally, when I finished at the end of the day, I would have to go home and shower that out because it was very dark. I don\u2019t know what they were using. It was kind of oil-based I think. It was tricky to get out every night.<\/p>\n \u201cAt first I didn\u2019t realise they were going to make my character look so different. On the first day I was thinking, \u2018Is this right?\u2019 And then when I saw what they did, the make-up department were just brilliant, I thought, \u2018Yeah, this is him. This is definitely him. This is Danny Sheridan.’\u201d<\/p>\n The Death in Paradise guest star previously admitted that he was \u201cnervous\u201d about joining the show<\/a> and acting alongside \u201call these people who were already regulars\u201d.<\/p>\n The upcoming special will see DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) look into the murder of a podcaster, who was investigating a child\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a case that\u2019s haunted Selwyn for many years, and now Neville and the team must lay its ghost to rest,\u201d the BBC has teased.<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Abby Robinson.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n The Death in Paradise 2022 Christmas special will air on Monday 26th December, with season 11 available to stream on\u00a0BBC iPlayer<\/a>.
