With a major catastrophe averted and another case cracked, Slow Horses season 2<\/a> has now finished airing all of its episodes on Apple TV+, and we must once again say goodbye to Jackson Lamb and his team at Slough House \u2013 for now.<\/p>\n

The spy series, which has been a huge hit for Apple, stars Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas amongst others, and follows a group of agents who have been exiled to MI5 dumping ground Slough House.<\/p>\n

Season 2 saw them grapple with a mystery and a plot surrounding long-buried Cold War Secrets<\/a>. But is a third season in the offing, what would it be about and when would it be released?<\/p>\n

There will! In fact, it was announced back in June 2022 that the series would be returning for at least a third and a fourth season, which would be shot back-to-back just as seasons 1 and 2 were.<\/p>\n

The new seasons will be based on the novels Real Tigers and Spook Street, meaning the drama will have got through half of Mick Herron\u2019s eight-part book series (although there is a ninth on the way).<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> ahead of the second season\u2019s release, Lowden said that he would want to continue playing River and adapting Herron\u2019s novels beyond the current confirmed third and fourth seasons.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he would like to play the character for eight seasons, to adapt each of Herron\u2019s eight novels, Lowden said: \u201cI mean, I want to see them \u2013 as a fan. I want to see all eight seasons, of course, and I think Mick\u2019s writing another [novel]. And so as a fan, I\u2019d love to watch it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd obviously as the actor in it, I would love to just keep going with where River is heading because we\u2019re shooting season 3 just now and it\u2019s really exciting where he\u2019s going.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely a bigger story with River that I would definitely love to see to its conclusion, which I can\u2019t say anything about, but if it\u2019s going the way I think it\u2019s going \u2013 because I\u2019ve not read the books \u2013 then I\u2019d love to see it, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to say exactly when season 3 of Slow Horses will be released. While seasons 1 and 2 were released in quick succession, both in 2022, this was because they were shot back-to-back. Seasons 3 and 4 have subsequently been shot back-to-back, but this does mean we might expect a longer break between seasons 2 and 3.<\/p>\n

However, with the seasons announced in Summer 2022 and started shooting soon after, we\u2019d hope that we could see new episodes start airing on Apple TV+ by late 2023<\/strong>. We\u2019ll keep this page updated as soon as any more firm information becomes available.<\/p>\n

Slow Horses season 3 will be based on the third novel in Mick Herron\u2019s book series<\/a>, called Real Tigers<\/a>. The blurb for the book reads as follows:\u00a0\u201cCatherine Standish knows that chance encounters never happen to spooks. She\u2019s worked in the Intelligence Service long enough to understand treachery, double-dealing and stabbing in the back.<\/p>\n

Stars Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden have both now confirmed their involvement in the show\u2019s upcoming third season, while we\u2019d also expect the rest of the Slow Horses main cast<\/a> back, including Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Jonathan Pryce and more.<\/p>\n

One character from seasons 1 and 2 that would we wouldn\u2019t expect to see back is Min Harper, played by Dustin Demri-Burns, after he was killed off early in season 2. It appeared at one time as though Freddie Fox\u2019s Spider Webb might have met a similar fate, but Diana confirmed he had in fact survived, so he could be back for more next season.<\/p>\n

Another character we\u2019re all waiting to see reappear is Olivia Cooke\u2019s Sid Baker, after Roddy confirmed she could still be alive somewhere at the end of season 1. As of now there\u2019s no telling if and when she will reappear, after she went unmentioned in season 2.<\/p>\n
