As with Keeping Faith,<\/span>\u00a0The Light in the Hall<\/a><\/span> first aired in its native Welsh (Y Golau, which translates to The Light) before the English-language production<\/a> arrived on our screens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The six-part drama stars Game of Thrones and Misfits\u2019 Iwan Rheon as Joe Pritchard, who has just been released from prison after serving time for murdering teenager Ela Roberts. Joe has never revealed what happened that fateful day, or disclosed the location of Ela\u2019s body, questions her mother Sharon (Joanna Scanlan) desperately wants answers to.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But when Ela\u2019s former best friend Cat Donato (Alexandra Roach), who is now a journalist, returns to her hometown with those same questions for a story she\u2019s writing, tensions reach breaking point.<\/span><\/p>\n

The narrative is set against a backdrop that is both beautiful and bleak, depending on mood and perspective.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is actually where I grew up,\u201d said Roach. \u201cIt\u2019s <\/span>Carmarthenshire<\/span> in west Wales. We were filming in Llandeilo, in that area, and it is beautiful. I\u2019ve lived away for the best part of 15 years now and coming back, seeing autumn into winter, and the mountains and the lakes, and the people, I\u2019m so excited for people to see this part of the world on a bigger scale.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you live somewhere, maybe you don\u2019t appreciate it. <\/span>It\u2019s gorgeous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During his downtime, Rheon would take himself on \u201c<\/span>big, long walks\u201d, with <\/span>Dinefwr Castle one of the spots nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe light in the morning was really beautiful,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s such a stunning part of the world. You could almost say that the scenery is another character in the series.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For Scanlan, the show challenges the \u201cmisconception about Wales that everywhere\u2019s quite similar\u201d.<\/span><\/p>
