New crime drama <\/span>The Light in the Hall<\/span><\/a> debuts on Channel 4 tonight, telling the story of a journalist obsessed by the historic murder of a former friend from her hometown.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The six-parter was filmed in both English and Welsh and features a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Iwan Rheon, Joanna Scanlan and Alexandra Roach \u2013 and ahead of the first episode, some of the stars spoke exclusively to <\/span>RadioTimes.com<\/span><\/a> about what makes the show so different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIt\u2019s not a typical detective story, life-weary detective going around trying to fix it \u2013 it\u2019s very retrospective,\u201d explained Rheon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that many of the people in the drama \u2013 including his own character Joe, who had spent time in prison for his role in the murder \u2013 \u201chave been left in this weird purgatory hiatus of life\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then we join the story when things kick off again with the release of Joe from prison,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think that was really interesting, and how he, the murderer, doesn\u2019t know what\u2019s going on. It\u2019s quite mysterious as to what\u2019s happened and how that unravels. It\u2019s really fascinating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Joanna Scanlan described the series as \u201cgenre-busting\u201d and spoke about some of the interesting questions that the show asks its viewers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment in our society, the role of the journalist is under scrutiny really,\u201d she explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe moral position of a journalist is under scrutiny and I feel like the framework for this, I wouldn\u2019t call it philosophical exactly but it\u2019s asking a question about, is there a truth that you can find? Is the truth the same as evidence?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf it\u2019s not the same as evidence, are these emotional truths that each of the three main characters are carrying around with them, are they more relevant and as substantial as what actually happened?\u201d<\/span><\/p>
