One of PlayStation\u2019s oldest franchises is getting the big screen treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s right, folks \u2013 the highly successful Gran Turismo video game series, which first debuted on the original platform all the way back in 1997, is being transformed into a movie\u2026 and Stranger Things\u2019 David Harbour<\/a> is leading the cast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, the wildly popular gaming franchise doesn\u2019t\u00a0have any kind of narrative or recurring characters.<\/p>\n

But, directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9), the film will also be a dramatisation of the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage Gran Turismo player who perfects his gaming skills in order to win a series of Nissan competitions and become an actual race car driver.<\/p>\n

And now Sony has shared an exclusive sneak peek at Gran Turismo<\/a>, which gives fans a first look at the upcoming movie, and also features some on-set interviews from <\/span>its stars, including Stranger Things star David Harbour<\/a> and Orlando Bloom<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The footage shows the lengths the filmmakers have gone to recreate the look from the games with real-life racing cars, with shots of the movie\u2019s high-octane races, as well as<\/span>\u00a0footage of the actual Gran Turismo video game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Harbour, who appears as a retired racing driver who trains Mardenborough, has promised the film will deliver \u201cbad-ass, race car action that you\u2019re going to feel like you\u2019re in the middle of\u201d.<\/span><\/p>

Meanwhile Bloom, who portrays motorsport marketing executive Danny Moore, tells viewers: \u201cThis movie is made for the cinema. The audience is going to feel every jolt, every thrill of this racing at 200-miles-per-hour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gran Turismo is the latest in a long line of Sony-planned video game adaptations, with\u00a0<\/span>movie versions of Horizon, Twisted Metal and God of War also on the horizon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Early on in 2022, Sony also released a film based on PlayStation\u2019s Uncharted franchise<\/a>, which performed better than expected at the box office.

The movie\u2019s cast is rounded out by Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner \u2013 yes, actual Ginger Space \u2013 and <\/span>Djimon Hounsou.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, behind the camera,\u00a0screenwriters Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) are penning the script.<\/div>\n

The official plot synopsis reads: \u201c<\/span>Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In Sony\u2019s exclusive sneak peek at Gran Turismo, star Madekwe also teases <\/span> \u201cdrama\u201d and \u201ca love story\u201d in the movie, but we\u2019ll have to wait for more details on this.<\/span><\/p>\n

It certainly looks like we\u2019re in for a wild ride, if Harbour\u2019s previous comments on the movie are anything to go by. <\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with Collider<\/a> back in 2022, the star teased a \u201cvisceral\u201d adaptation of the video game franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNeill is so cool and such a good director that it\u2019s really been a joy to work on this movie,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cTalk about \u2018not what you expect\u2019 \u2013 with him at the helm there\u2019s a visceralness to this movie, to this video game world that is so cool. I can\u2019t wait for you to see this movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
