Universal has unveiled the first trailer for Renfield, showcasing a new take on Dracula lore with comedy and violence aplenty.<\/p>\n

Directed by Chris McKay, this modern monster tale focuses\u00a0<\/span>on Dracula\u2019s (Nicolas Cage<\/a>) long-suffering servant (Nicholas Hoult<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

However, after centuries of service, Renfield falls in love with traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) in modern-day New Orleans, and decides he\u2019s ready to leave his master, but how will he work up the courage to do so?<\/p>\n

Well, in the clip, Renfield resorts to attending a group therapy session as he tries to figure out what to do, exclaiming:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI need to get out of a toxic relationship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t you start by telling us what brought you here,\u201d the therapist says, to which Renfield responds: \u201c\u2019My boss is\u2026 different.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Viewers are then shown Renfield dragging a body into the vampire\u2019s gory lair, which is covered with blood bags.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re also treated to closeups of Dracula\u2019s teeth, before he requests a \u201chandful of nuns\u201d and a \u201cbusload of cheerleaders\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cage previously said there is a \u201ccomedic pop-art attitude\u201d to the film, telling\u00a0 Empire Magazine<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cWhen I got a sense of where McKay wanted to go, I realized the movie has a comedic, pop art attitude. So I thought: \u2018This will be a pop-art Dracula.\u2019 Warhol did a great black-on-black Dracula. This is in that Warhol vein.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Renfield won\u2019t lack frightening moments if the trailer is anything to go by.<\/span><\/p>\n

Producer Robert Kirman previously described the film as \u201cextremely violent comedy\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a fun, extremely violent comedy because I\u2019ve got a crutch, and it\u2019s violence,\u201d he said recently<\/span> during\u00a0Kevin Smith\u2019s Fatman Beyond podcast.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
