From David Tennant<\/a> and Catherine Tate<\/a>, to Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann and the great William Russell,<\/a> Doctor Who of late has not been short of returning legends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But there\u2019s been one notable absence in the form of Carole Ann Ford\u2019s iconic character Susan Foreman<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the uninitiated, Susan was the Doctor\u2019s granddaughter, and the first ever companion in the beloved BBC sci-fi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She travelled in the TARDIS alongside the First Doctor (William Hartnell) and paved the way for 60 years worth of companions, including Tegan (Janet Fielding), Ace (Sophie Aldred), Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Donna Noble (Tate) and, looking to the future, Ruby Sunday<\/a> (Millie Gibson).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After 51 episodes of adventures, Susan became the first companion to leave the show with a performance from Ford and Hartnell that is sure to still bring tears to fans\u2019 eyes, as a departing Doctor declared: \u201cOne day I shall come back, yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
