Instead, I disgraced myself by serving exploded sausages, half-raw potatoes and a sludge that was supposed to be onion and stout gravy.<\/p>\n<p>So, when the opportunity to try out <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/reality-tv\/gordon-ramsay-next-level-chef-competing-bake-off-masterchef-newsupdate\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">Next Level Chef<\/a> \u2013 ITV1 and Gordon Ramsay\u2019s latest cooking competition \u2013 came about, I thought this could be the moment to redeem my culinary skills; to prove that my dishes are a source of pleasure and not food poisoning. I was gravely wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The reality competition, which is already established in the US, places 12 chefs in a 50ft-tall three-storey kitchen, with those on the top floor getting first pick from chance to grab the ingredients they want after the top team, while contestants in the basic basement must work with whatever\u2019s left.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I was in the bottom floor team and with just 30 minutes to cook a dish from whatever was left on the moving food platform, I was determined to impress judges Gordon Ramsay (our assigned mentor), Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s safe to say I failed to do that \u2013 to the extent that Gordon spat my meal out, threw it on the ground and called it an \u201cidiot sandwich\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>With limited resources to work with and even more limited skill on my part, I decided the safest thing to do would be to whip up a stir-fry since I\u2019d only managed to grab vegetables.<\/p>\n<div bass from another journalist and picking up some bread from the food platform\u2019s second trip down to the basement, I served up a \u201cmanky\u201d stir-fry sandwich, much to the disgust of the Hell\u2019s Kitchen chef.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is Next Level Chef, not Ready Steady T**t,\u201d he said in exasperation mid-way through the cooking process.<\/p>\n<p>You can watch his iconic reaction \u2013 and the cooking chaos that preceded it \u2013 in the video above and while I may have once again publicly embarrassed myself, at least I can say I served Gordon Ramsay a dish he\u2019ll never
