Following reports that Prime Video won\u2019t be renewing<\/a> either of Jeremy Clarkson\u2019s series, Clarkson\u2019s Farm<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0The Grand Tour<\/a>, nor will it be working with him on any future projects, a new report has suggested that this is unrelated to his comments in The Sun newspaper regarding Meghan Markle.<\/p>\n

It was initially reported in Variety<\/a> that the streamer would be axing Clarkson\u2019s shows, while the presenter himself had said on Instagram<\/a> that Amazon was \u201cincandescent\u201d about his column in The Sun, in which he had said that he \u201chate[s]\u201d Markle and dreams of crowds throwing \u201clumps of excrement at her\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, The Telegraph<\/a> has since reported that any cancellation of Clarkson\u2019s projects would be unrelated to the column, with a senior figure connected to Amazon telling them: \u201cAny speculation that this has anything to do with anything like that [Harry and Meghan] is nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a media analyst also told the publication that: \u201cAmazon\u2019s only interest in anything it makes or sells is does it make a profit?\u201d<\/p>\n

The report therefore suggests that the projects are being axed due to production costs and low viewing figures, with Clarkson himself being \u201cexpensive\u201d for the streamer and his shows not rating well outside of the UK. The report suggests that demand for Clarkson\u2019s Farm in the US is 30 per cent lower than demand for the average show.<\/p>\n

RadioTimes.com<\/a> has reached out to Clarkson\u2019s representatives for comment.<\/p>\n

This follows controversy surrounding Clarkson\u2019s column in The Sun on 16th December 2022, in which he wrote in reference to Markle: \u201cI hate her. Not like I hate [Scottish National Party leader] Nicola Sturgeon or [British serial killer] Rose West. I hate her on a cellular level.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt night, I\u2019m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, \u2018Shame!\u2019 and throw lumps of excrement at her.\u201d<\/p>

He has since issued two statements, one on Twitter<\/a> saying he is \u201chorrified to have caused so much hurt\u201d and another on Instagram<\/a> saying: \u201cI really am sorry\u201d.<\/p>\n

In December, ITV content boss Kevin Lygo was questioned<\/a> on whether Clarkson\u2019s relationship with ITV, for which he hosts Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, would continue.<\/p>\n

Lygo said that the column \u201cdid not represent our values\u201d and that \u201cit was awful and he has acknowledged that\u201d. He then said: \u201cWhat [Clarkson] writes in a newspaper column is really more for [the press] to talk about than us. We have no control over what he says and hire him as a consummate broadcaster of the most famous quiz on TV.\u201d<\/p>
