Erich Maria Remarque\u2019s classic World War I novel All Quiet on the Western Front is considered by many to be the greatest war novel of all time, and it\u2019s a tough one to adapt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three directors have tried, with\u00a0<\/span>Lewis Milestone turning it into an Oscar-winning film in 1930<\/span>, followed by\u00a0<\/span>Delbert Mann\u2019s acclaimed TV movie in 1979<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the latest version by <\/span>German writer-director Edward Berger <\/span>has landed on Netflix, deviating from previous adaptations in a number of ways, firstly by remaining in its original German language, but also adding additional plotlines that don\u2019t feature anywhere in the novel.<\/span><\/p>\n

All Quiet on the Western Front<\/a> stars\u00a0Felix Kammerer as young German soldier Paul B\u00e4umer,\u00a0<\/span>who lies about his age to join the war effort alongside his school friends, only to be confronted with the real horrors of World War One.<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie is one of the few Netflix original films to grab the attention of critics and Academy voters alike, having been nominated in nine categories for the 95th Academy Awards<\/a>, including <\/span>Best Cinematography, Best International Feature Film, and Best Picture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Felix Kammerer leads the cast as Paul B\u00e4umer, who is the central figure in the film, while\u00a0Albrecht Schuch appears as Stanislaus \u201cKat\u201d Katczinsky, one of Paul\u2019s friends in the army.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Aaron Hilmer stars Albert Kropp, another young man who enlists in the army,\u00a0Edin Hasanovic as Tjaden Stackfleet, an army ranger, and\u00a0Daniel Br\u00fchl as politician Matthias Erzberger.<\/p>\n

The cast is rounded out by Adrian Gr\u00fcnewald as Ludwig Behm, Moritz Klaus as Franz Muller,\u00a0Thibault de Montalembert as General Ferdinand Foch,\u00a0Devid Striesow as General Friedrichs,\u00a0Andreas D\u00f6hler as Lieutenant Hoppe and Sebastian H\u00fclk as Major Von Brixdorf.<\/p>\n
