Along with Segel the series has been created by Ted Lasso<\/a> co-writers Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein (who also plays Roy Kent in that show), and co-stars Harrison Ford<\/a>\u00a0in a major casting coup.<\/p>\n RadioTimes.com<\/a> spoke exclusively with Lawrence ahead of the show\u2019s debut to ask how this casting came about. He explained: \u201cI\u2019d known Harrison a little bit and Brett ran into him in London.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd when we were talking about the character, we said \u2018a Harrison Ford type\u2019 because it\u2019s supposed to be an older guy, tail end of his career, blue collar, gruff but funny.<\/p>\n \u201cI just told Brett, \u2018Dude, I\u2019ll just ask him. He\u2019ll say no and then we\u2019ll move on.\u2019 And I asked him and he was like, \u2018Ah, I might do it.\u2019 And I didn\u2019t have anything else ready after that.<\/p>\n \u201cSo we sent Jason Segel in and Harrison\u2026 I\u2019m not sure I should say this but I\u2019m like, \u2018And it\u2019s with Jason Segel\u2019 and Harrison Ford was like, \u2018Who\u2019s that?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Lawrence revealed that he and the team then sent Ford copies of Segel\u2019s films The End of the Tour and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and that Ford responded: \u201cI love this guy, I don\u2019t know why I hadn\u2019t heard of him \u2013 I love him.\u201d<\/p>\n Lawrence continued: \u201cThen he said, \u2018Also he\u2019s got a great penis!\u2019 Because Jason was nude full frontal in Sarah Marshall. And so Jason framed that text and put it on his wall at his place. Like, \u2018Harrison Ford texted me about my naked body!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Brett Goldstein also spoke with RadioTimes.com<\/strong> about his meeting with Ford ahead of him officially coming on board the series.<\/p>\n Goldstein said: \u201cI met with him and we had a chat and he said he wanted to do it. We talked all night and he was like, \u2018I relate to a lot of this. There are aspects of the character\u2026\u2019 certainly stuff I won\u2019t spoil that happens later in this series, but it really spoke to him, I think.<\/p> \u201cAnd also, aside from the seriousness of the character, which I think he really understood, he hadn\u2019t officially done comedy really \u2013 and he\u2019s f**king funny. And I think he was buzzing to do things where he\u2019s getting laughs, like you could see him in the read-through getting huge laughs in the room and the sort of delight in his eyes like, \u2018Oh, this is fun, comedy\u2019s fun.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cSo I\u2019m assuming that\u2019s why he did it but we still can\u2019t really believe it.
