When asked if there had been any news of his wife by Mrs Wallace in tonight\u2019s episode of Call the Midwife<\/a>, he revealed that he\u2019d recently received a letter and she was \u201csounding on top of the world\u201d, adding, \u201cI think she\u2019ll be booking her flight home soon.\u201d<\/p>\n But a short time later, the smile was wiped from his face.<\/p>\n Cyril was hoping to speak to Lucille over the phone but instead, it was her sister Celine who delivered the news.<\/p>\n Lucille, who had been ordered to rest by Dr Turner, had started working at the town hospital so that she could pay her way at her parents\u2019 home.<\/p>\n That led to her being offered a sister\u2019s position on the maternity ward and she subsequently agreed to stay on for six months, something that she hadn\u2019t mentioned in her correspondence with her husband.<\/p>\n \u201cMaybe there was more wrong than I knew, in the marriage, in us,\u201d Cyril says to Violet.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019ve only been married for 18 months,\u201d she responds, attempting to quell his anxiety.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd what if Lucille was unhappy for all that time?\u201d says a dejected Cyril.<\/p>\n Violet is quick to inform him that love can be strengthened by absence, but he\u2019s not convinced: \u201cAnd sometimes, the opposite happens.\u201d<\/p> Has Lucille washed her hands of London, even if it means leaving Cyril behind?
