The Nolly screenwriter has revealed what returning to Doctor Who means to him. <\/p>

As we prepare for the launch of Nolly<\/a> on ITVX, it\u2019s safe to say that the screenwriter at the helm of it, Russell T Davies<\/a>, is a fan of the beloved soap and its classic stars.<\/p>\n

But elsewhere in the near future, we have Davies\u2019s big Doctor Who<\/a> return to look forward to, as he comes back as showrunner for the 60th anniversary episodes and beyond in what he has described as \u201cthe next stage for Doctor Who\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Radio Times magazine<\/strong> ahead of Nolly<\/a>\u2018s premiere this week, Davies revealed that the decision to return to Doctor Who is one that has some emotional personal ties.<\/p>\n

When asked whether dealing with the loss of his husband Andrew \u2013 who passed away in 2018 \u2013 has got any easier, Davies said: \u201cNo and I don\u2019t expect it will.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his husband\u2019s illness, Davies gave up work to be his carer. Now, he revealed: \u201cIt isn\u2019t killing me. I\u2019m quite glad that I\u2019ve gone back to writing Doctor Who because psychologically I\u2019m thinking, \u2018He knows what I\u2019m doing now\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives me comfort. It\u2019s when you do new things he never experienced that it feels odd and you don\u2019t enjoy it so much.\u201d<\/p>

He went on to say: \u201cIn some ways, it has got worse because it\u2019s \u2018Oh, you\u2019re still not coming back?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it\u2019s why Andrew keeps popping up in everything I write. Even in Nolly with the scenes of her cancer, I found myself visiting hospitals. There\u2019s been death in a lot of the stuff I\u2019ve written over the past few years. I don\u2019t mind that. I\u2019m glad. It feels richer.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the interview, Helena Bonham Carter also agreed, saying: \u201cWe have to incorporate it into our lives and talk about it. And even with divorce, too \u2013 people don\u2019t talk about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor those of us who are grieving a divorce or someone who has gone\u2026 our heads are full of that person. So this thing of \u2018Don\u2019t mention it\u2026\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
