With the world still reeling from last night\u2019s (Sunday 5th February) explosive Happy Valley finale<\/a>, thoughts of any future plot lines are naturally doing the rounds among hopeful fans.<\/p>\n

Of course, we know this third season was the final instalment in Sally Wainwright<\/a>\u2018s beautifully-crafted drama and there most definitely isn\u2019t a season 4<\/a> on the cards.<\/p>\n

However, one scene in particular has set up any future Ryan (Rhys Connah)<\/a>\u00a0scenes perfectly and speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, the actor has revealed more about how that scene in the police station sets up the post-credits life of Ryan.<\/p>\n

He explained:\u00a0\u201cMe and Sarah were speaking about that scene on the day we were filming it. She said for her, that sets up how the story is going to carry on after the cameras have stopped rolling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the final season of Happy Valley. This is the end, but that provides context for the story after, so we can see a little bit past how season 3 ends. And I do think that Ryan would become a police officer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scene in question is when Ryan is taken to the police station for questioning about Tommy Lee Royce<\/a> (James Norton). Going up the stairs with Catherine (Sarah Lancashire), Ryan is complimented by Detective Superintendent Andy Shepherd (Vincent Franklin) who says there\u2019s \u201csomething about him\u201d that made him think the teen was a new police recruit.<\/p>\n

Ryan cracks a smile and bounds up the stairs after his grandmother. Soon after, he comes clean about the contact he\u2019s had with Tommy and tells the police all about the games console communication<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While we like to think that Ryan was always going to be honest \u2013 and betray Tommy \u2013 it does seem as though Andy\u2019s nod of approval for policing could have had more of a profound impact on the teen after all.<\/p>\n

While season 4 isn\u2019t happening, we can remain satisfied in the fact that Ryan could very well follow in his grandmother\u2019s footsteps and be the no-nonsense police officer she was.<\/p>

The 16-year-old also came into his own in the final episode when he confronted Catherine about her fallout with sister Clare (Siobhan Finneran). When asked about bridging the divide between the two sisters, he said: \u201cIt shows how strong all the characters\u2019 relationships are. And it shows how the characters can develop as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like, \u2018Oh the series has ended, we\u2019ve got to make up now.\u2019 There\u2019s a reason for it. It\u2019s not just, \u2018They\u2019ve caught Tommy, we\u2019re making up.\u2019 There\u2019s a reason for it and that\u2019s something that\u2019s done really well.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the run-up to the tense finale, rumours were circulating about the multiple endings that were filmed for the BBC drama, but Connah played it down as \u201ca rumour that\u2019s gone around a bit\u201d.<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cA lot of TV shows do this \u2013 when they film the ending they film it in a lot of different ways, if that makes sense. It\u2019s the same ending but how it\u2019s shot, how it\u2019s framed, how it\u2019s lit, how the characters are, the emotions behind the words they say \u2013 that can all affect a scene in ways that a lot of people can\u2019t even imagine.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy just how much the lighting can affect the scene. So shooting things differently allows them to have a bigger choice so they can pick the perfect combination of things to make the best ending possible.\u201d<\/p>
