The fate of The Doctor’s nemesis remains uncertain. <\/p>
Doctor Who star Sacha Dhawan has responded to fan demands for his incarnation of The Master to get a spin-off series as the franchise prepares for a major creative overhaul.<\/p>\n
Series 13 of modern Who is currently filming with Jodie Whittaker reprising her role as The Doctor for the last time<\/a>, but there\u2019s no word yet on whether Dhawan will be back to face her.<\/p>\n The actor, also known for The Great<\/a> and Marvel\u2019s Iron Fist<\/a>, debuted in the role in the twelfth series episode Spyfall, earning strong praise for his interpretation of the menacing foe.<\/p>\n One fan wrote in a tweet: \u201cPlease BBC, can we have a Doctor Who<\/a> spin-off featuring Sacha Dhawan\u2019s Master, just want to see what his Master gets up [to] on his own.\u201d<\/p>\n Dhawan replied: \u201cYou really don\u2019t\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n You really don\u2019t\u2026. ???? https:\/\/t.co\/E0guWSeQkt<\/a><\/p>\u2014 Sacha Dhawan (@sacha_dhawan) August 10, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote> Fans have been busy speculating exactly what the cryptic comment means, with some theorising it could reference the character\u2019s return after his possible death in the series 12 finale.<\/p>\n Dhawan told\u00a0Radio Times\u00a0<\/strong>last September that there has been \u201cno talk\u201d about his version of The Master returning, but that he would \u201creally love to come back\u201d to the long-running sci-fi drama.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just really excited to see, if I do come back, where they\u2019d take the character,\u201d Dhawan added. \u201cYou know, the Master\u2019s so unpredictable, he can get out of anything. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll be inclined to make another visit. I hope!\u201d<\/p> Previous Doctor Who spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures have attracted passionate fanbases, although BBC Three\u2019s later effort \u2013 Class \u2013 was cancelled after one season.<\/p>\n Aside from the online animated Daleks!<\/a> shorts, there have been no subsequent Doctor Who spin-offs, but former showrunner Russell T Davies has championed the idea of a Marvel-style connected universe of shows<\/a>.<\/p>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
