Kathryn Newton takes over the role of Scott’s daughter in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. <\/p>
Scott Lang\u2019s daughter Cassie has already appeared in a number of MCU films, but in the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania<\/a>\u00a0she\u2019s played for the first time by Kathryn Newton.<\/p>\n And by the sounds of things, this won\u2019t be the last time Newton appears as Lang \u2013 with director Peyton Reed teasing that the character has a \u201cvery bright future\u201d in the franchise.<\/p>\n Reed made the comments during an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a> when speaking more generally about the future of various characters from the film, including both Scott and Hope van Dyne.<\/p> \u201cI think there\u2019s a lot more story to be told with these characters throughout the MCU,\u201d he said. \u201cI like that Scott particularly has gone from being an ex-con who was sucked into this larger world of heroes and villains and is now front and centre in this, and then maybe is potentially going to become an elder statesman in the Avengers. I love that idea, it feels right to me.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd the same thing for Hope,\u201d he added. \u201cI think\u2026 to see them ongoing in the MCU would be great. And certainly Cassie with what happens to her in this movie, she seems like she has a very bright future.\u201d<\/p>\n There have been some rumours swirling that Cassie could go on to form part of the cast for a potential Young Avengers film \u2013 alongside the likes of Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez \u2013 and although there has been no confirmation, Reed\u2019s comments certainly won\u2019t dispel those rumours.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Whatever happens in the future, Newton revealed to RadioTimes.com<\/strong> that she thoroughly enjoyed joining the cast for Quantumania, and said she was made to feel very welcome by the other actors.<\/p>\n \u201cI was so happy, I was just so excited and grateful to be asked to play Cassie Lang that it didn\u2019t really hit me until the first day I had rehearsals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had that little table read and then I realised, I was like \u2018Oooooh\u2019 because I saw everybody. But again I was really lucky to be in this group of people because they are very much like team players and they brought me up.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that there was one particular piece of advice she recieved from Paul Rudd early on that really stood her in good stead for the rest of the shoot.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were doing rehearsals with a character that I\u2019m not going to talk about, and we did a little improv,\u201d she said. \u201cBut Paul took me aside and he was like, \u2018I can tell you\u2019re funny.\u2019 And he was like: \u2018I think you should not be afraid to hold back, like don\u2019t hold back, don\u2019t miss this opportunity because you\u2019re afraid of failing, so take that risk and go for it.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd it was like all I needed to just have fun and then I was able to make mistakes and bad jokes that didn\u2019t make it in the movie, but nonetheless, it was a great experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Evangeline Lilly added that \u201cit was really nice\u201d of Rudd to give that advice, adding that it can sometimes feel like you \u201cneed permission\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cYou need permission,\u201d agreed Newton. \u201cIt\u2019s his movie, he\u2019s Ant-Man, he\u2019s the star.\u201d\u00a0And she added that Lilly also helped welcome her to the film when she was initially cast.<\/p>\n \u201cShe called me like when she found out I was joining like we had a two-hour Zoom and she was just like giving me the open door of, \u2018If you need to talk if you have a question, here\u2019s what I think.\u2019 And like they didn\u2019t have to be like that but they were, and I think that\u2019s what\u2019s so special about making movies \u2013 you\u2019re on a team.\u201d<\/p>\n Warning: the video below contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.<\/strong><\/p>
