Coming off the back of her BAFTA<\/a> nominated work in Good Luck To You, Leo Grande<\/a>, and her acclaimed turn as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical<\/a>, Emma Thompson will next be seen in romcom What\u2019s Love Got to Do with It?<\/p>\n

The film also stars Lily James and Shazad Latif, and follows James\u2019s filmmaker as she documents her childhood friend\u2019s arranged marriage.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the film\u2019s release, Thompson spoke with the Radio Times Podcast<\/strong>\u00a0about what she\u2019s been enjoying on TV, what it was like being in the Cambridge Footlights with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and what her new film has taught her about love and marriage.<\/p>\n

You divide your time between north-west London and Scotland \u2014 which living room do you prefer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, God \u2013 they\u2019re different! Our living room in London is our kitchen as well \u2013 everything happens in there. In Scotland, you eat in the kitchen and then sit in front of the fire releasing whatever needs to be released \u2013 ideas, wind, windy ideas\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

What have you been watching on telly?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Valley<\/a> gave me such pleasure. It was so brilliantly written and beautifully performed \u2013 just fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who controls the remote?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNeither of us [Emma and her husband Greg Wise] has any kind of relationship with the remote. Both of us spend the entire time wandering around, clapping our hands to the carpet, going, \u2018Where\u2019s the remote?\u2019 We\u2019re both utterly pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Which TV shows have marked your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMonty Python\u2019s Flying Circus got me through school. I wrote to Michael Palin about it when I was in my 30s and he, and the others, sent me a bill. It was essential through my teenage years \u2013 school, on some level, is deeply unbearable for all young people because it\u2019s so rigid and Victorian.\u201d<\/p>\n
