In a recent RadioTimes.com<\/a> poll, more than 2,000 readers voted<\/a> on which classic companion<\/a> most deserves a comeback, after various Doctor Who icons, including Ace (Sophie Aldred)<\/a>, Tegan (Janet Fielding), Ian Chesterton (William Russell)<\/a>, and Jo Jones (Katy Manning)<\/a>, returned in some form or another.<\/p>\n A whopping 43 per cent voted for the original companion, Susan, who saw the universe with the First Doctor (William Hartnell).<\/p>\n Responding to the poll results, Ford told RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201cThat\u2019s amazing, I\u2019m absolutely flabbergasted. I\u2019m very honoured!\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking about why people resonate with the character of Susan, she added: \u201cThe idea of her, what I was told after I got the part, was she would be the eyes and ears of the young people watching it, that her reaction would be the perceived reactions of them, so therefore they would probably identify with her.\u201d<\/p>\n She went on: \u201cShe was unique because she was the Doctor\u2019s granddaughter, which gave her a special relationship with him.\u201d<\/p>\n As for whether she would be open to returning? \u201cAre you kidding?! Do you really have to ask? I\u2019d love to be in it as it is now! I\u2019d love to experience all the money they spend on it now \u2013 it\u2019s done like a film! I would adore to be in it now.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Susan was the very first companion and was introduced as the Doctor\u2019s granddaughter. She left in 1964, in an emotional scene where the Doctor locks her out of the TARDIS and promises: \u201cOne day I shall come back.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the poll, Louise Jameson\u2019s Leela received 11 per cent of the vote, while Romana II, played by Lalla Ward, received 10 per cent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Jamie McCrimmon, played by Frazer Hines, received eight per cent of the vote, with Katy Manning\u2019s Jo Jones and Nicola Bryant\u2019s Peri each receiving six per cent.<\/p> Of course, Doctor Who hasn\u2019t been short of returning legends after last year\u2019s The Power of the Doctor<\/a>, which saw various classic Doctors and companions come back.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, for the 60th anniversary of the show, Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant<\/a> (who\u2019s playing the Fourteenth Doctor this time around) and Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) are also back in action.<\/p>\n As for whether we\u2019ll ever get to see Susan step foot in the TARDIS again, only time will tell!<\/p> ![\"""\"](\""https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2023\/01\/Carole-Ann-Ford-afd0c52.jpg?quality=90&crop=5px%2C176px%2C2124px%2C1415px&resize=620%2C413"\" "\\"\"\"\\"\/")
