HBO\u2019s The Last of Us<\/a> brings us something new every week and, in episode 7<\/a>, Ellie\u2019s sexuality has been addressed.<\/p>\n The series has already been praised for its LGBTQ+ representation<\/a> following the beautiful love story featuring Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett)<\/a> in episode 3, so fans have been keen to see if Ellie\u2019s sexuality would be mentioned.<\/p>\n In the game<\/a> The Last of Us Part II, Ellie has a girlfriend, Dina. We get a view of their relationship through Ellie\u2019s journal entries and Dina helps her on her quest for revenge.<\/p>\n While Dina has not yet made an appearance in the show, and she\u2019s not expected to in season 1 (fingers crossed for season 2<\/a>), Ellie\u2019s sexuality is referenced in episode 7 through her relationship with Riley (Storm Reid)<\/a>.<\/p>\n Riley is introduced as Ellie\u2019s best friend, but it becomes clear there\u2019s more to their bond than that. Throughout the episode, it appears Ellie has strong feelings for Riley, before the pair finally kiss.<\/p>\n While Ellie is immediately unsure of herself and apologises, Riley quickly bats away any negative feelings about the kiss, asking her: \u201cWhat for?\u201d<\/p>\n Actress Ramsey has previously spoken out about Ellie\u2019s sexuality, telling GQ<\/a> of any negative reactions that fans might have over the LGBTQ+ storylines, \u201cI know people will think what they want to think. But they\u2019re gonna have to get used to it.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you don\u2019t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that\u2019s on you, and you\u2019re missing out. It isn\u2019t gonna make me afraid. I think that comes from a place of defiance.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n She added on the Happy, Sad, Confused<\/a> podcast: \u201cI\u2019m really excited, to be honest, for the Ellie\/ Dina story.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve watched a cut together, someone\u2019s made a phenomenal \u2013 I don\u2019t know how they do it \u2013 like an amazing edit of just the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina\u2019s love story. So I\u2019m excited to play that out.\u201d<\/p>\n Game co-writer Hayley Gross also previously opened up about Ellie\u2019s sexuality, telling IGN<\/a>: \u201cEllie was born gay. This is just who she is. And to explore who she is as a teenager and as an adult, it wouldn\u2019t be honoring her character to hide some facet of herself.\u201d<\/p> Meanwhile, showrunner Craig Mazin has promised that LGBT representation will continue to be shown on the series.<\/p>\n When one fan asked on Twitter: \u201cY\u2019all better keep the gay gay. Pls and thank you. Do not erase that representation pls.
