The hit ITV drama is coming to an end with season 9 \u2013 but why? <\/p>
After having first aired as a single film back in 2012 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Inspector Morse<\/a>\u2019s TV debut, Endeavour<\/a> is coming to an end with its ninth season<\/a>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a veritable success of a series, amassing an average of 4.5 million viewers across season 8\u2019s three episodes, which aired in September 2021.<\/p>\n But now, it\u2019s time to say goodbye to DS Endeavour Morse (played by Shaun Evans) and the main cast, which includes Roger Allam\u2019s DCI Fred Thursday.<\/p>\n This new ninth and final season is set in the early \u201970s, and we find Endeavour and Thursday entering a new era of change both professionally and personally. There\u2019s the return of some familiar faces<\/a> \u2013 including Fred\u2019s son Sam, played by Jack Bannon (Pennyworth<\/a>), who arrives back from Northern Ireland following his service in the British Army.<\/p>\n While many fans will obviously be upset that Endeavour will no longer grace our screens after this series, it has always been part of the plan, according to founder of Mammoth Screen, Damien Timmer, who is also the executive producer of Endeavour.<\/p>\n He said:\u00a0\u201cFrom the first Endeavour pilot, Russell has known exactly where he wanted to end the saga of Endeavour Morse and Fred Thursday. We put off this awful day for as long as we possibly could, but there was a point a few years ago where we agreed as a creative team that it was time to prepare for the final end, and go out on a high!<\/p>\n \u201cITV has been the most generous and supportive partners and were very respectful of the team\u2019s decision to make this the final series. We have now made more Endeavour films than there were Inspector Morse stories.\u201d<\/p>\n But why exactly is the series ending?
