After season 4\u2019s shock departure for DCI Cassie Stewart<\/a>, Sin\u00e9ad Keenan will take the reigns and replace Nicola Walker in season 5 as new boss DCI Jessie James.<\/p>\n The RTS award-winning actress, who has recently starred in Showtrial<\/a> and Derry Girls<\/a>, has revealed that she was initially \u201creticent\u201d about even reading the scripts for Unforgotten.<\/p>\n Speaking to ITV about her new role, Keenan said: \u201cIf you\u2019re at the start of something, you\u2019re all in together and you\u2019re all running blind a bit. You\u2019re doing your best work, you\u2019re hoping people will like it, but you\u2019re all in the same boat.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you come into an established show, it\u2019s very, very different. And obviously I\u2019d seen the show, and Nicola is brilliant, so I was initially reticent about even reading the scripts. But then I read the scripts, and they were brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cWhen I spoke to my agent she said, \u2018Apparently it\u2019s really lovely job,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018OK, you\u2019re just trying to sell this now.\u2019 My fear was, that I didn\u2019t want to be filling a Cassie-shaped hole. But obviously, Chris Lang has created a completely different character with their own storyline, and it\u2019s great.<\/p>\n \u201cSo I was very glad to have been wrong, essentially. And the whole team behind Unforgotten is really lovely, I have not had an experience like that on any set. It was so smooth. And I could not have been made to feel more welcome. Which was really lovely. So I\u2019m very lucky.\u201d<\/p> But it\u2019s not just plain-sailing for Keenan\u2019s new character, as her and fan favourite Sunny (Sanjeev Bhaskar) are set to be at \u201cloggerheads<\/a>\u201d throughout this fifth season. Speaking about their new partnership, Keenan revealed: \u201cWhen they meet, it is loggerheads. It\u2019s passive aggressive, jibes, in a way it\u2019s jostling for position.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not until episode four, once the shock of her news dissipates a bit, that she really tries to get herself together. And we hope they can start working together as opposed to beside each other.\u201d<\/p>\n As for the \u201cnews\u201d that Keenan mentions, she previously told RadioTimes.com<\/a>\u00a0and other press while on set for the fifth season that \u201csomething happens\u201d to Jessie in her personal life \u201cwhich means she\u2019s off kilter, not working to the very best of her ability. Which means it takes a while for them to gel\u201d.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n The series\u2019 showrunner Chris Lang also added while on set that Jessie is \u201cin a very different place to Cassie, because Cassie was on something of a descent, both emotionally, but also in terms of her career\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking about the differences between our two leads, he continued: \u201cShe was at an age where she\u2019d done it for 30 years, and she\u2019d had enough. And I always thought that was a really interesting dynamic \u2013 to have a hero cop who didn\u2019t want to do the job anymore.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd Jessie is just completely the opposite. She\u2019s absolutely at the peak of her powers. I think this is her first job as a DCI, and she\u2019s got a lot of energy. And she\u2019s very different to Cassie.
