Manning, who played Jo Grant in the classic series, has revealed if she’d be keen to reappear in a new spin-off. <\/p>

It\u2019s been confirmed that the next phase of Doctor Who<\/a> under returning showrunner Russell T Davies will include spin-offs<\/a> from the flagship series \u2013 and now classic companion Katy Manning has spoken about her possible involvement.<\/p>\n

Since her original stint on the show between 1971 and 1973, Manning has twice reappeared as her character Jo Grant \u2013 in 2010 on The Sarah Jane Adventures<\/a> and in a cameo for Jodie Whittaker\u2019s final episode<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Jo appeared in a short film<\/a> produced to promote the Doctor Who: The Collection \u2013 Season 9 Blu-ray set<\/a> which saw her go up against a Sea Devil, with fans subsequently calling for a spin-off featuring the character.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a special BFI screening of the original story \u2018The Sea Devils<\/a>\u2018 from 1972, Manning was quizzed about just such a possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be spin-offs, there will be people returning \u2013 I do know that,\u201d she said. \u201cI think Granny Jo [\u2026] is a glorious character now \u2013 this woman with all these children, championing the world\u2026 and the thought of this extraordinary old lady of 77\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019d be lovely if she just occasionally comes in for a very good reason. They\u2019ll bring lots of people back but I hope that Great Granny Jo gets just a little kind of nod here and there.\u201d<\/p>
