Here’s your guide to the novels that inspired Netflix’s latest fantasy epic. <\/p>

If you\u2019ve already binged Shadow and Bone season 2<\/a> and are wondering what comes next for Alina or the Crows, you\u2019re in luck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The popular Netflix<\/a> fantasy series is based on the Grishaverse, a series of popular YA novels penned by Leigh Bardugo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shadow and Bone<\/a>\u2019s first two seasons adapt the first three Grishaverse books, which revolve around Alina Starkov<\/a> (Jessie Mei Li) as\u00a0<\/span>she realises she has the rare power of sun-summoning.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Grishaverse is made up of the <\/span>Shadow and Bone<\/span> trilogy, the <\/span>Six of Crows<\/span> duology, the <\/span>King of Crows<\/span> duology, and three supplemental books.<\/span><\/p>\n

The TV series\u2019s primary storyline \u2013 concerning <\/span>Alina Starkov<\/span><\/a> \u2013 is adapted from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, but the subplot revolving around characters Kaz, Inej and Jesper<\/a> actually stems from the follow-up Six of Crows duology, with this part of the series essentially serving as a prequel to those books.<\/span><\/p>

The expansive Grishaverse is currently comprised of three series of novels and a selection of short stories, so it\u2019s not surprising that some readers may be confused about where to start.<\/p>\n

To clear up any uncertainty, here is the intended reading order:<\/p>\n

1. Shadow and Bone trilogy (aka The Grisha Trilogy)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The ideal place to start your journey through the Grishaverse is with Bardugo\u2019s first trilogy of novels, which serve as an excellent introduction to her fantasy world, as well as one of its key characters, Alina Starkov.<\/p>\n

The trilogy should be read as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Shadow and Bone<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Siege and Storm<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Ruin and Rising<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>

    2. Six of Crows duology<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Once you\u2019re finished with the Shadow and Bone trilogy, you should then move on to the Six of Crows duology, which picks up two years later in a different setting and with a new cast of characters.<\/p>\n

    While it would be possible to start reading here, it is not advised as these two novels contains some spoilers and references to the events of the Shadow and Bone trilogy.<\/p>\n

    The duology is comprised of:<\/p>\n

    1. Six of Crows<\/a><\/li>\n
    2. Crooked Kingdom<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>

      3. King of Scars duology (aka The Nikolai Duology)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      After you\u2019ve burned through both the Shadow and Bone trilogy\u00a0and\u00a0<\/em>the Six of Crows duology, you can move on to Bardugo\u2019s most recent additions to the Grishaverse.<\/p>\n

      The King of Scars duology takes place one year after Six of Crows and takes us back to Ravka, where the events of Shadow and Bone unfolded.<\/p>\n

      As the culmination of everything that\u2019s happened so far, it\u2019s strongly recommended that readers brush up on the previous novels before diving into these two.<\/p>\n

      The King of Scars duology should be read in this order:<\/p>\n

      1. King of Scars<\/a><\/li>\n
      2. Rule of Wolves<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>

        Once you\u2019ve finished those two offerings, you\u2019re up to date with the main story of the Grishaverse \u2013 but there is more content to explore, if you\u2019re hungry for it.<\/p>
