Greg Davies has said it\u2019s \u201cunlikely\u201d he would reprise the role of Mr Gilbert \u2013 his fan-favourite character from The Inbetweeners \u2013 stating that \u201ceverything has a shelf life in this business\u201d.<\/p>\n
The actor and comedian was speaking at an event launching the second season of The Cleaner<\/a>; the anthological sitcom where he plays crime scene cleaner Paul \u2018Wicky\u2019 Wickstead.<\/p>\n The role is something of a departure for Davies, who admitted that he didn\u2019t want to play \u201canother middle-aged dad\u201d and was excited by Wicky being \u201ca more unusual role\u201d.<\/p> Nevertheless, Davies seemed open to the prospect of returning to characters from his previous sitcoms, including Channel 4\u2019s Man Down and BBC One\u2019s Cuckoo, when quizzed at a press Q&A.<\/p>\n Davies said: \u201cI think some people would probably give you a very earnest answer to that and say \u2018the past is the past, we must always be looking forward\u2019. But I don\u2019t know \u2013 maybe? I don\u2019t have hard and fast rules.<\/p>\n \u201cTo quote a really good friend of mine, \u2018I just can\u2019t believe I get to do this s**t\u2019. So I think I\u2019d be open to anything really.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n However, he went on to say that some characters \u2013 such as The Inbetweeners\u2019 memorably bitter Sixth Form head Mr Gilbert \u2013 may have been rightfully retired.<\/p>\n \u201cYou have got to be careful not to flog a dead horse,\u201d continued Davies. \u201cEverything has a shelf life in this business. So you have to be very mindful of that. So I think it\u2019s unlikely you\u2019ll see me as Mr. Gilbert \u2013 but then all of the boys are 50.\u201d<\/p>\n He jokingly added: \u201cThat said, if there\u2019s a Mr Gilbert spin-off\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Davies is not the only one to have expressed skepticism about the idea of any kind of revival for The Inbetweeners, with star Simon Bird recently saying it would run the risk of being \u201csad and creepy\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, co-star James Buckley claimed\u00a0there is \u201cnot enough money in the world\u201d<\/a> to convince him to step into the role of Jay Cartwright once more.<\/p>\n The Cleaner season 2 is coming soon to BBC One and iPlayer.
