The new adaptation of Great Expectations<\/a> is arriving on BBC One this Sunday, and it has been penned by none other than Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders<\/a> and SAS Rogue Heroes<\/a> fame.<\/p>\n

The new series stars Fionn Whitehead as the young orphan Pip, who gets a chance to rise above his station thanks to the eccentric Miss Havisham.<\/p>\n

Olivia Colman<\/a> takes on the role of Miss Havisham, while the cast is rounded out by the likes of Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ashley Thomas and Matt Berry.<\/p>\n

But the cast could\u2019ve almost looked very different, with Colman recently revealing she almost turned down the role.<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press at a recent Q&A for the series, Colman said that at first, she \u201ckept going \u2018No, no’\u201d. She said this was \u201cbecause a couple of my good mates had played it and I thought \u2018Oh no’\u201d.<\/p>\n

However, Colman added: \u201cAnd then I realised that in art world, loads of people have played Richard III. It\u2019s okay. Actors do that. And then I saw Steven\u2019s take on it, I read the scripts \u2013 in general I never say yes before I\u2019ve read the script. And I loved it. Everything in Steven\u2019s hands is just heightened and made better.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
