Collette spoke exclusively with RadioTimes.com about the new Prime Video sci-fi series. <\/p>
With the first three episode of Prime Video<\/a> sci-fi series The Power<\/a> now available to stream, Toni Collette has spoken exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> about the scene she felt \u201cnervous\u201d to film.<\/p>\n The series, based on the 2016 novel by Naomi Alderton, is set in a world where suddenly, without warning, all teenage girls develop the power to electrocute people at will.<\/p>\n In a key scene, Collette\u2019s character Margot Cleary-Lopez, the mayor of Seattle, gives a risky but powerful speech, becoming one of the only politicians to tell the public the truth about the girls\u2019 new power.<\/p>\n Collette said of filming the scene: \u201cWe\u2019re working with really incredible material. I was actually a little bit nervous about that [scene], because it is an absolute pivot for the character and for the story.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause everyone\u2019s trying to suppress this truth, this new evolution \u2013 it\u2019s a serious change that\u2019s affecting people, young females specifically, all around the world, with a knock-on effect of affecting everybody, society at large. And nobody is telling the truth about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Collette continued: \u201cI just find that moment very telling about my character, because she has so many responsibilities \u2013 she\u2019s a mum and she\u2019s married to this beautiful man and she\u2019s the mayor of a city. And she\u2019s suddenly thrust into this position of realising she\u2019s the only one.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cYou know, that moment of like, \u2018Oh my god, I\u2019m the one who has to step up and say this, I\u2019m actually the truth teller here\u2019. And it\u2019s a big decision because you kind of have to let go of life as it was.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the line is, life may not be \u2013 I can\u2019t remember what it is. I\u2019m not gonna try and paraphrase the wonderful writing, but it\u2019ll never be the same. Basically, life will never be the same.
