Netflix\u2019s Beef, a comedy-drama which charts the feud between two strangers following a road rage incident, deals in extremes \u2013 Amy and Danny\u2019s sparring escalates far beyond what most people will recognise \u2013 but is rooted in an all too common and corrosive<\/span> reality: the inability to communicate how we\u2019re really<\/em> feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n Both self-made <\/span>entrepreneur Amy (Ali Wong) and contractor Danny (Steven Yeun) wear taunt, painted smiles during their interactions with the world. When their masks slip momentarily \u2013 a lip quiver here, a wrinkled brow there \u2013 and t<\/span>hey\u2019re asked if they\u2019re ok, the answer is always the same: \u201cGood! Everything\u2019s good!!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Note the upward inflection, the smile swiftly reappearing, like it had always been there.<\/p>\n That brush-it-under-the-carpet mentality is addressed during a conversation between Amy and her mother-in-law Fumi, who is a proponent of such an approach herself.<\/p>\n \u201cThe moment you begin to worry, the moment you acknowledge the worry, you solidify it into existence, which is why we chose to ignore,\u201d she says of the financial instability within her own marriage.<\/p>\n \u201cAll you have is perception.\u201d<\/p>
