Myrie is taking over from John Humphrys, who announced he was stepping down earlier this year, and is planning to make a change to the legendary quiz show. <\/p>
Earlier this year it was announced John Humphrys would be leaving Mastermind after an 18-year stint, with BBC News journalist Clive Myrie<\/a> confirmed as his replacement shortly after.<\/p>\n The News At Ten presenter is ready to welcome potential masterminds into the dreaded black chair, but he has revealed he\u2019ll be making some changes to the legendary quiz show.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope that I\u2019m a friendly face when the contestants walk in,\u201d Myrie told Radio Times<\/strong> magazine.<\/p>\n He also revealed that he would be wishing the contestants luck, marking a sharp departure from Humphrys\u2019 style, which appeared to be geared towards amping up the quiz\u2019s high-pressure environment \u2013 which was inspired by Gestapo interrogation practices.<\/p> When asked whether he shouldn\u2019t be forbidding, Myrie explained: \u201cThe questions are forbidding, the chair is forbidding. I\u2019m not going to be forbidding. I\u2019m there as a friend and we could, potentially, have a drink afterwards.\u201d<\/p>\n He added the audience don\u2019t want to see contestants \u201csquirming\u201d. Yes, it should be a \u201cbattle royale\u201d, he said, but \u201cthat is more likely if I\u2019m smiling\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking of taking over from Humphrys and following in the steps of former hosts\u00a0Magnus Magnusson, Peter Snow and Clive Anderson, Myrie said:\u00a0\u201cWhat a privilege it is to take on this new role. Mastermind with Magnus Magnusson formed the backdrop to my youth, and now to be at the helm is a dream come true.
